Eric Meyer – Policy Priorities for Stony Plain

I believe in a Stony Plain that grows gracefully, remains safe, and continues to be a place where people feel connected, invested, and proud. As one of seven councillors, my role is to listen, advocate, and help guide decisions in collaboration with colleagues, administration, and residents.

Here are the areas I will continue to support, explore, and champion:

Safety & Security

Stony Plain should remain a safe community where people feel secure in their homes, on our streets, and in public spaces. I will work to revive Citizens on Patrol with renewed community participation and oversight, and promote the careful use of security cameras in key locations — guided by neighbourhood feedback and strong privacy protections.

Public safety is not just about enforcement, but also about building trust. I will advocate for clear policies, transparent oversight, and regular evaluation of these initiatives to ensure they serve the best interests of residents.

Social & Community

One of Stony Plain’s greatest strengths is its close-knit, small-town feel. As our community grows, I want to ensure that those connections grow stronger too. I supported the neighborhood connect program and the next stage will be exploring community leagues, neighbourhood events (again, connected to the aformentioned neighborhood connect program), and resident forums that help people connect and relay their thoughts and feelings to town council in a more casual setting, share ideas, and strengthen local democracy.

I believe that a responsive local government is one that listens, engages, and remains accountable. By providing more opportunities for residents to be heard, we can keep that spirit alive.

Growth & Housing

Growth in Stony Plain should be responsible, well-planned, and sustainable. Housing must reflect the diverse needs of our community — from families and young people to seniors and newcomers — while ensuring that infrastructure and services keep pace.

I will advocate for development that balances affordability, environmental responsibility, and efficient land use. Growth should enhance quality of life, not compromise it, and residents should have meaningful opportunities to provide input into planning decisions.

Recreation

Recreation is central to health, happiness, and a thriving community. I support making aquatic facilities a priority in the next phase of recreation development, recognizing the strong interest from families, youth, and seniors.

At the same time, I will encourage thoughtful planning that considers usage data, long-term costs, and future maintenance needs. My goal is recreation infrastructure that is accessible, safe, and sustainable — places where residents of all ages can learn, play, and grow.

Fiscal Responsibility

Every tax dollar matters. I support protecting essential services, avoiding waste, and making strategic investments that provide long-term value to the community.

I will push for transparent budgeting, regular reviews of service delivery, and the pursuit of partnerships or grants to ease the burden on local taxpayers. Decisions should balance today’s needs with tomorrow’s responsibilities, always considering the lasting benefits to Stony Plain residents.

Environmental Responsibility

A healthy, clean environment is vital for the wellbeing of our town. I support initiatives that improve waste management and recycling, expand sustainable practices in municipal operations, and protect the green spaces that define our community.

I believe in exploring partnerships, renewable energy opportunities, and innovative approaches that balance environmental stewardship with affordability and practicality. Our choices today will shape the Stony Plain we leave for future generations.

I don’t believe in “one-size-fits-all” solutions, nor in making promises that a single councillor cannot deliver. What I can promise is this: to listen, advocate, and make decisions with integrity, guided by the values and voices of the people of Stony Plain. Together, we can continue building a community that is vibrant, safe, and sustainable.
